FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What does “holistic” mean?
To us, holistic means “everything is connected.” So your food and lifestyle choices, movement, relationships, are all related and not mutually exclusive. If you only looked at the food on your plate – and excluded other elements of your life — you couldn’t create true “whole health.” That’s why a person who exercises a lot and eats healthy may not lose weight or feel good in their body, if they hate their job or are in an unhappy relationship.
Which foods are good or bad for me?
We work with you to create healthy food choices that work for your body, your taste and texture preferences. Along with exploring your personal preferences we use tools like metabolic typing, blood-type, and ayurvedic type to determine which foods work best for your body.
I know which foods are healthy, but I don’t know what to do with them. Can you help?
We select recipes for you from our extensive database that are easy, quick and healthy for you, and work with your taste preferences. We help you plan your meals so you have a roadmap. With guidance and practice, your skills and confidence will grow.
Can I do this program if I’m not a good cook?
Yes! You do not need to be a gourmet chef or have a chef kitchen to prepare healthy food. We guide you toward easy food preparation using simple recipes and cooking methods, including some raw food preparation. If you are in the Boston area we will cook with you until you are comfortable, and/or guide you with links to video clips.
How can I improve my eating habits if I don’t have time to cook?
Most of our recipes take between fifteen and thirty minutes to prepare and cook — the same amount of time it takes to select, order and have take-out delivered! If you really don’t want to cook, we guide you through menus to select healthy choices in a restaurant, or take-out food choices in your area.
Where can I find healthy choices in the grocery store?
For Boston-area clients, we offer a guided food-store tour if you are looking for a personal 1:1 experience, and we also have DVDs in our lending library to show you how to effectively shop for healthy foods. If you are a long-distance client we provide handouts and tips to get you shopping!
Will I lose weight?
We encourage you to be comfortable in your body regardless of weight. Food does change everything, and weight loss can be a result of this program. We will help you to reach your ideal, healthy body weight by focusing on food, movement, managing stress and feeding your spirit.
Most of the “work” happens outside the sessions as you live your daily life. We guide you past mental/emotional resistance and blocks you may have that have prevented you from reaching your health goals, including email support between sessions to guide you on your journey. The more YOU put into your program, the greater results you will experience.
What if I don’t like going to the gym?
No problem — I don’t either! We find ways you do like to move your body, and help you incorporate those into your lifestyle. Clients have found dance, swimming, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, yoga, outdoor movement like walking or running to be enjoyable, comfortable ways to move their body.
What does being spiritual mean?
Connecting to your spirit is another way to “feed” your mind and body, so that you connect with your core or inner source. For some people this is a religious practice, for others it may be meditation, being in nature, gardening, art, crafts, playing with kids or a combination. We work with you to find your spiritual connection.
How can I avoid feeling guilty about taking time for self-care?
We help you see that by taking care of yourself FIRST you can then be of more service to others. If you are strong and healthy and feel good, you can accomplish so much more in your life!
